My plugin work fine on WP version 4.9.8 and you are the first person to report this issue. Is it possible that you have some plugin or added code that is hiding or concealing your WP version in some way?

Deactivated all and it now works. Will let you know which one(s) is was upon slowly adding them back in after the scan.

Good to know that plugin is blocking the wp_version from all other plugins at activation time. I looked at the code and there is no other way around this issue other than to deactivate that wpblock plugin while you install any other plugins that need to check the wp_version variable on activation.

Thanks again for the follow-up 😉
