Hi, I just recently set up my domain and host and installed WordPress on it, and it will not let me add a new theme/template that i downloaded in my Administrator settings. I have already FTP’ed it into the correct location, but it doesn’t even show up in the appearance tab. Am i doing something wrong?

Where did you get the theme from?

Tell me about the details of the theme.

You should try to upload your wordpress again, make sure you CHMOD the folders appropriately. Tell us about the error message you get.

I got the theme from http://www.templatepanic.com/article/warcraft-wow-wordpress-theme and I’m not completely sure if the problem is the theme itself. Do you think it’s the order of events that I made everything and WordPress might not know I have a webhost?

These are the steps I took to making my website:

    1. I made a wordpress account and new blog.

    2. I bought a domain using one of the wordpress options, and I linked them.

    3. I set up a webhost and linked it to my domain.

    4. I installed wordpress.

Maybe there is some way that i need WordPress to recognize my webhost? Sorry, I am very new to this and need some help.

If you have a free wordpress.com blog, you cannot install themes.

If you have a hosting account with your own domain and your own self-installed copy of WordPress, you should be able to install themes by following this guide:

That’s the problem. I made a wordpress account first, then attached a domain to it, and ended up getting hosting for the domain. Do I have to wait 5 days so i can transfer my domain from WildWest Domains or whatever it is to my host BlueHost?

I think you can re-point the name to new name-servers at anytime. There is a 60 day wait to transfer a domain from the first register, but the ability to point the domain to your BlueHost site negates the 60 day issue.

WordPress.Com has people moving sites to self-hosting on a regular basis so there should be some help there with the moving.
