Cannot add new website

Hi I am totally lost,

I installed Piwik on one of my wordpress sites a few months ago. So today I logged into piwik and tried to enter anther website.

So first I go to Settings and add my new wordpress website url.

I then go to add that url and install the Piwik plugin.

Then I go to Piwik settings in the plugin and enter the Piwik URL (REST API): as http://www.mydomain.com/analytics/piwik/

Then I enter the Auth token: Which I got from clicking on API in my original Piwik login panel

I then get the this An error occured: Please check URL and auth token. You need at least view access to one site. [Support]

my URL + token_auth are correctly entered in WP-Piwik

Looks like WP-Piwik is not able to connect to Piwik.

Is the Piwik URL you use in blog 2 the same URL you use in blog 1?
(e.g.: are both mydomain.com/analytics/piwik or are you using mydomain1.com/analytics/piwik and mydomain2.com/analytics/piwik)

Did you try to define a user agent if the default user agent is empty?
(See expert settings: use an own user agent instead of PHP default.)

Try to run WP-Piwik’s test script.

Here is an image of exactly what I am doing when I try to add the new site

I can run the test script ok. I clicked on support and ran from there

Also on the main PIWIK page I am getting this

Auto site configuration is enabled.
Tracking code insertion is disabled.

Please try to define a user agent (instead of PHP default, e.g. the default setting “WP-Piwik”).

If this does not solve your issue, please post the test script’s output here. (Please use the code tags.)

Have a look at test 2. You get a 404 (not found) error if you call /analytics/piwik/?module=API&method=SitesManager.getSitesIdFromSiteUrl&url=SITE_URL_HERE&format=XML&token_auth=AUTH_TOKEN_HERE

Can you try to request this URL manually (using your browser)?
You have to fix this 404 issue. I bet you are using a rewrite rule which catches this request.

I have exactly the same issue – first installation works fine, second installation generates same messages as above.
You say that <you have to fix this 404 issue>? I’m not a web developer, how would I fix the 404 issue?

I fixed this, it is an issue with hostagor. For adding a new website to Piwik. I add the new site on my piwik first. Then I copy the piwik tracking code for the new site. Then I go to my footer.php file on my cpanel. and enter the code after the </body> and before the </html>

Then go to this post “How do I configure Piwik when mod_security is enabled?“

make the edit and save changes to footer.php and vistit the new site and you will see that visit in your Piwik tracking.
