Cannot add user with Author status

    I would like to add a new user as an author but not allowed to choose any as Network Admin.
    With add new user    , there is simply username and email.
    Username and password will be mailed to the above email address.

    What registration setting is required?
    the only one enabled is Logged in users may register new sites.

    Is there some other setting required to adjust user role?

    You add the new user and then change their access level per site.

    Remember, you’re adding the user to the network, and then granting them specific per-site access.

    there is no option to change or edit role

    Two ways.

    1) Go to domain.com/<SITENAME>/wp-admin/user-new.php and add the user, designating the role

    2) Go to domain.com/wp-admin/network/user-new.php and add the user, THEN go to domain.com/<SITENAME>/wp-admin/users.php and edit them

    As Super Admin, you should be able to do #1

    The happens with main site, but user can be added to subsite, is some setting to be adjusted?

    Well that second one is clearly a ‘something is wrong with your site’!

    This is my add a new user to an individual site screen.

    See the diff?

    Make sure you are logged in as the Super Admin. Turn off ALL plugins. Yes. All. See if it shows up.

    Switch to the Twenty Ten theme (in case a functions.php call is killing things).
