Cannot create hyperlink

Today I cannot create or edit a hyperlink: the Create/edit Hyperlink button is active but does not respond.
Yes I highlighted text first.
The hyperlinks that are already there work, but cannot edit them either.
Related? Click on Help or Screen Options does nothing.
Otherwise, I can edit text, add text, highlight etc.
