Hi @xtcm8, thanks for getting in touch.
I remember you contacted us about this, and in my second response I said:
I would visit /wp-content/plugins/ in your hosting file manager if you don’t have FTP access, possibly through cPanel if that’s set up on your hosting. I am fairly sure you’ll find a “wordfence” folder that, when deleted or renamed, will allow the installation to continue.
A file search may not pick up a directory so it’s best to manually take a look. The topic was closed due to inactivity after that but we’re fine to carry on troubleshooting from here. If the folder doesn’t exist at all in that location, I would take a look at our manual plugin removal instructions to see if there’s anything from a previous install attempt left over that’s causing the message to appear: https://www.wordfence.com/help/advanced/remove-or-reset/
Thanks again,
Peter.

I just realised I had replied to your message at the NO Reply address.
Hi Peter
I’ve had so much trouble with changing computers, I had forgotten that I had contacted you. I think Wordfence is the last of these problems.
I have gone to the cpanel and searched for FTP. Seems I don’t have any files there as nothing shows anywhere and it asks if I want to create a new folder. No idea how the backend works so I haven’t tried that option
I then downloaded the Wordfence Assistant and tried to remove Wordfence with the idea to re-install.
When I click remove all traces of Wordfence, a pop up appears immediately saying it is successfully uninstalled but at the bottom of the screen a red bar says assistant is working. I have left this running for hours, but nothing happens.
I still get the message that WordPress installation failed because a WordPress folder already exists.
I have tried restarting after trying but it makes no difference.
Don’t know what to try next. I can’ find this mystery folder.
And again today,
Just tried to register the site on Worfence and got the following message.
“Unable to communicate with Wordfence plugin. Please verify Wordfence is installed and activated on this site.”
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi
Still can’t find Wordfence. Wordfece Assistant says it has removed all files and data. But when I try to install, it says “installation failed, Wordfence folder already exists”. I have searched high and low, but cannot find any trace of it on my WordPress panel or on computer or on cPanel. Any other ideas?
