Tried to install Wordfence plugin but it failed saying it was already loaded. Downloaded zip file, says it is installed, but I can’t find it anywhere. Where should it be?

Hi @xtcm8, thanks for reaching out.

You should be able to find a /wp-content/plugins/wordfence folder inside FTP or File Manager access to your site. If you have it but something has gone wrong, rename it to “wordfence_bak” and try again. If the zip isn’t working for you, try going through the WordPress > Plugins > Add New screen and downloading/installing it directly inside of WordPress.

    Thanks,
    Peter.

Sorry Peter, I cannot find FTP file and when I try to install Wordfence, it starts to download and then stops with a message “already installed”, but it doesn’t show up on plugins page.

    Hi @xtcm8,

I would visit /wp-content/plugins/ in your hosting file manager if you don’t have FTP access, possibly through cPanel if that’s set up on your hosting. I am fairly sure you’ll find a “wordfence” folder that, when deleted or renamed, will allow the installation to continue.

    Thanks,
    Peter.
