Cannot install “WordPress.com Theme Updates plugin”

    Hi there. I am a novice user of WordPress on a self-hosted service. I installed WordPress through the service provider’s cpanel softculous. I recently downloaded a wordpress.com theme and installed it on my self-hosted WordPress site. Once installed, I get the following notification:

    Thanks for installing Illustratr from WordPress.com!
    To keep this theme up-to-date on your Multisite network, please install the WordPress.com Theme Updates plugin and Network Activate it.

    As I click the link (bolded above), I get an error as follows:

    An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with ww.wp.xz.cn or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.

    I tried searching WordPress.com Theme Updates plugin on these forums and on google, but could not find any help.

    Appreciate if someone can assist.

    I’m mostly sure that plugin has been retired as WordPress.COM themes are all here already.

    Try using this theme instead.

    https://ww.wp.xz.cn/themes/illustratr/

    Which is the same theme but does not need that old plugin.

    Thank you, Jan for the guidance on this. However, that is not the only theme that I downloaded and installed from WordPress.com – it would seem that there are some themes that are not available on ww.wp.xz.cn such as bosco.

    Hi! Did you fix the problem? I’m with the same issue, but with another theme: Dyad 2. But the message is the same and I think that my theme looks a little weird… for eg: when I was using this theme in wordpress.com, was possible to change de fonts, but now I this option doesn’t appears.
