If Poedit tells you the file is corrupted, chances are it is — e.g. because it was created by a broken tool. Latest versions of Poedit (1.8.x) can auto-correct some common issues (you can also use msgfmt -v -c to check the file for errors).
If Notepad++ won’t show you the file either, something is wrong with your filesystem. If Notepad++ shows you garbage, the is probably corrupted at file system level and is beyond hope.
