• I have installed wordpress today and started to customise my page.

At first, I could save changes or publish, but now when I try to do this, I am getting the following error message: ‘Looks like something’s gone wrong. Wait a couple seconds, and then try again.’ I have tried many times now, and from different sections of the Customiser.

I have seen this topic many times on the forums, and it’s usually about PlugIns, so I checked the PlugIns on the WP Admin page and they are all inactive.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I don’t want to lose my changes! I’m very much NOT a developer or a coder, so any advice in laymen’s terms would be much appreciated.

  • What sort of changes are you trying to make in the Customizer?
If you are trying to add Additional CSS, then copy everything you have in there into Notepad (Notepad++ preferred, NOT Word).
    Then refresh the page.

Have you made any recent changes, which lead to you aren’t able to publish posts?

If so, what did you change?

I have only made simple changes like the background colour, font, adding a logo, changing the menu items, etc. Nothing to do with CSS or anything complicated.

I don’t think it is a plugin, I think something went wrong with the connection.
Which means you will need to refresh.
So write down all the changes you made.
    Good luck.

Thanks Carkie. My other tabs are refreshing ok. Every post I’ve seen about this issue seems to talk about plugins.

I made so many changes it will take me ages to write them down, I will basically be back pretty much at the start.

Are there any other suggestions from anyone, before I go down the ‘refresh and lose everything’ route? Thanks very much.

WordPress has three broad categories of code: Core, Plugins and Themes.
The reason we ask people to switch to a default (Twenty*) theme and to disable all plugins is to exclude that code as a potential source of conflicts – i.e. to narrow down the possibilities.

Even with plugins and themes excluded, there are still many possible explanations. It could be a browser, or it could be a connection, or it could be an issue with hosting, or it could be an issue with .htaccess, or dozens of other things.

Based on what you said, it sounds like a connection issue, but since you are the one that needs to live with the consequences, the choice is up to you.

    Good luck.
