    Hi folks,

I recently updated our company’s blog to the latest version of WordPress (5.5) in our dev environment and ran into an issue when trying to remove a few of my spare themes. The Themes page on the WordPress dashboard doesn’t seem to be responsive now that I’ve updated my version of WordPress. Updating the Themes doesn’t seem to help.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers,

  • Hi @optimalpartners

    What error you are getting?

If you are not able to remove it from the Admin area then you can try to remove it using FTP/SFTP.

    Hi Animesh,
Thanks for the reply. I’m not receiving an error, but clicking on the themes, which usually brings up another menu to view and edit Theme Details, doesn’t do anything at the moment. What’s strange is that the “Help” button to the top right-hand corner no longer works on that page either.
Removing the themes isn’t as much my concern as the page not working correctly after the latest WordPress update.
I don’t assume that this would be a front-facing issue, but I want to make sure that nothing else is potentially working incorrectly.
    I really appreciate the advice.

    Hi @optimalpartners

I’d love to help you out with this! That definitely shouldn’t be happening. I need a little more information to understand what’s going on. 🙂

    Can you please tell me:

    • Do you have any other theme(s) installed on your WordPress? Are you able to activate them?
    • Are you able to install a new theme on your WordPress? For example: Twenty Twenty
    • Are you able to deactivate your installed plugins?

    Hi Animesh,

    Thanks for the help!

We have a parent theme (Genesis) and a child theme (Magazine Pro) as well as two unused themes (Twenty Nineteen & Twenty Twenty). I’m able to activate other themes and install new themes, but I’m unable to deactivate or remove them from the WordPress dashboard because clicking on the Themes no longer brings up the Theme Details.

    Hi @optimalpartners

    Thanks for providing the information.

Sometimes the problem occurs due to a plugin. I request you to please deactivate your all plugins (don’t delete them) and activate the Twenty Twenty theme, then try to delete your theme like this: https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/video/787203?key=a7cd0929d3285bd4037ed6f02e2041bb

Please note that you can’t delete an active theme (or its parent, if it’s a child theme).

You can also delete your theme via FTP/SFTP. Here is the tutorial: https://kinsta.com/blog/wordpress-delete-theme/#ftp-sftp

    Hi Animesh,

Thanks again for your help! I’m currently working on deactivating our plugins to identify which, if any, are the problem. I also wanted to mention, however, that in addition to the issue with opening up the Theme Details, updating to the latest version of WordPress also causes my WordPress dashboard to behave oddly. Normally, when I drag my cursor over a menu item in the WordPress dashboard, it opens up a dropdown menu with several options. Once I’ve updated to the latest version of WordPress, this is no longer the case. I have to click on a menu item for it to show the drop-down menu, and by that time I’m already navigating to that menu item’s page and need to click the drop-down menu again.

To clarify, here are the three issues I’m running into:
    – Cannot access Theme Details when clicking on individual Themes
    – Cannot click the Help drop-down menu on the Theme page
    – Hovering over menu items in the WordPress dashboard no longer shows the respective drop-down menu

I’ll update this post once I’ve completed my tests.

    Hi Animesh,

I’ve completed my testing and I have identified which plugins were causing the issue. Now that those plugins are disabled, WordPress Dashboard works properly.

Thank you again for all of your help!

    Hi @optimalpartners

I’m glad to hear that the issue is solved now. If you have any more questions or come across any other issue, let me know, I’ll be happy to help. 🙂
