I tried to restore database that was backed up with Updraft Plus. I use Google Drive as the backup drive.

When I selected the Restore in Updraft, it looked like it was going to start – but just got hung up, showing no progress. After an hour of nothing, I stopped it (CANCEL).

Now it is telling me it cannot connect to do anything – not even view past log files. I cannot. IN my WordPress Admin, I cannot get to the Dashboard, pages, anywhere. It is like it took hold of the db and won;t give it back and won’t go through with the restore.

I found the db backup file in Google Drive but it is locked (no access). It is only 35MB – not a big file size.

Here is the error message I get when I try to open logs or go anywhere:

    Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at adv1323808090458.db.3277818.hostedresource.com. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

    Hi,

Can you please send us a copy of the restoration log?
You can find this log in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory of your new site location.
You can send the log file as an attachment or copy the contents into an online tool (such as http://pastebin.com/ )

    Best Wishes,
    Bryle

I am totally hosed now. Everytime I try to move, I get the “Error establishing a database connection” message I listed in the above post.

Is it possible that the Retore Database option first deleted the existing database but could not restore the new one? I don’t know but now I can’t do anything

I tried to download the database file backup directly from Google Drive but it says I do not have permission to do so.

Right now my website is gone

    Hi,

My sincere apologies for the delay.

The restoration process deletes and restores database tables one at a time.
The ‘cannot connect to database’ error indicates that either the database credentials in the wp-config.php file are incorrect, or the MySQL server is not responding.

The most likely in this case would be that the restoration caused the MySQL server to hit a resource limit and go down.

For Google Drive, were you logged in as the same user as UpdraftPlus was authenticated with?
