I have seen similar topics but the resolution was never posted. We are trying to update some meta data on our content pages and the information is not saving. Specifically when we try and update something under the ‘social’ tab and then click the update button under the Publish box, the information fails to save. The only thing I can see that might be related in the console is a bad post request.

We’ve tried updating plugins and permissions, as well as trying in different browsers to no avail. Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Hi @pspinc,

I’m sorry your experiencing an error while trying to update your social settings on the page.

Could you tell me which settings are being updated in the social tab?

Are you connected to Semrush to see Focus Keyphrase recommendations when this occurred and is this happening on other pages?

This may be related to a theme or plugin conflict.

Could you please use the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin (https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/health-check/) to debug possible conflicts by following these steps:

This test will not affect the site for your visitors.

    1. Make sure to have a default WordPress theme like Twenty Twenty-Two installed.
    2. Go to Plugins > Add New and install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
    3. Go to Plugins > Installed Plugins and click on Troubleshoot below the All in One SEO plugin.
    4. This will temporarily disable all the plugins and switch to a default theme only for your user ID without impacting what your visitors see.
    5. Check to see if you’re able to reproduce the problem.
    6. Once you’re done troubleshooting, deactivate and delete the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.

Please let me know what you find and I can take a closer look.

Specifically we are trying to update the Facebook title and description.

    Findings from above:

    • disabling all plug-ins and keeping the website theme DID NOT update successfully with the same error
    • disabling all plug-ins and switching to a default theme DID update successfully
    • attempting to update the same settings on a different page DID update successfully without disabling plug-ins or the theme (e.g. works as expected)

The only major difference between the two pages tested was one had some custom form code, but even removing this on the problematic page did not solve the problem. And it appears to be some kind of theme conflict, but it is only specific to this page as it works on others. What other information can we provide to help narrow down the cause?

    Hi @pspinc,

Thanks for the detailed testing results.

Could you please share more information about the custom form code? What is it doing for the form?

Would you be able to check for errors in your browser error console on that page so I can help you?

    Please follow these steps:

    1. Go to the screen where you’re experiencing the problem and open the browser developer tools. You can find instructions for each browser here – https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/article/using-your-browser-to-diagnose-javascript-errors/#step-3-diagnosis
    2. Reload the screen and check the Console tab for errors, which will show in red.
    3. Take a screenshot or copy and paste these errors and send them to me, and I can investigate this further.

You may use a tool like Snipboard (https://snipboard.io/) or Loom (https://www.loom.com/screen-recorder) to create & share the screenshots/screencasts.

We also have an article on the browser error console here – https://aioseo.com/docs/how-to-open-the-browser-error-console/

    Thanks!

The form is just a contact form that collects basic user information and was created through Divi. But as I mentioned even removing the form did not fix the problem so I do not think they are related.

As for the console errors, there are only two when repeating the above steps. This is the same error that I originally reported.

In the All in One SEO settings we also don’t have any kind of connection to Semrush.

    Hi @pspinc,

    Thanks for sharing the screenshot.

Please follow these steps to see if it resolves the issue:

    1. Go to All in One SEO > Search Appearance > Advanced tab.
    2. Toggle the Run Shortcodes option.
    3. Save Changes and then recheck the problem page.

Please let me know how it goes.

    Thanks!

    Hey @subiewrx,

We haven’t heard back from you in a couple of days. I’m going to go ahead and close this thread for now. But if you’d like us to assist, please feel welcome to continue the conversation.

    Thanks!
