The connection via FTP has absolutely nothing to do with WordPress. FTP is a service provided by your host. WordPress has no influence on this.

What exactly happens when you try to upload images? What message is displayed?

Please also take a look under Tools > Site Health to see if there is any message there.

Hello Threadi, thanks for your message. My host then misinformed me about the FTP login.

The message I get when trying to upload images is: ”Het geüploade bestand kan niet verplaatst worden naar wp-content/uploads/2025/03” Which is Dutch for ”The uploaded file cannot be placed in the folder wp-content/uploads/2025/03”

When using Site Health I get diagnosis ”good”. With 5 recommendations:

    • WordPress update available
    • You can delete inactive plugins
    • You can delete inactive themes
    • Cannot get access to file system
    • Page cache is not detected but server reaction time is OK.

To solve all above I need to login with my FTP credentials, which it keeps saying is not correct. My host is Strato. Their FTP login works for filezilla, but not when trying to login into wordpress. It says: ”Connection failed to FTP-server ssh.strato.com:21”

    Your problem is this message:

Cannot get access to file system

Apparently WordPress cannot write files and directories in the hosting. You need to clarify this with your hoster’s support.
