I had my WordPress blog as the homepage to my site, while the rest of the pages were static HTML. I decided to make a new, static homepage and move the WordPress blog from the root directory into another folder (called “news”) so that it wouldn’t be my homepage anymore. I went to the WordPress administration panel and made the mistake of adding /news to both the WordPress address and the Blog Address. Now I can’t access my administration panel at all, as when I type in mysite.com/news/wp-admin it redirects to: http://andreabloom.com/blog/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fandreabloom.com%2Fnews%2Fwp-admin%2F

And it gives me the following error message:

    Object not found!

The requested URL was not found on this server. If you entered the URL manually please check your spelling and try again.
    Error 404
    mysite.com
    Tue Feb 15 21:40:32 2011
    Apache/2

All I want to do is get access to my administration panel again. What do I do?

  • Move WordPress back to where it was in your root. Then see Changing_The_Site_URL which will help you change the url back to what it was previously. Finally, when you have access again, see Moving_WordPress.

Thanks esmi, I was able to get halfway there and get access to my admin panel. Following the instructions in moving WordPress, though, is not working to help me move my site. When I change my WordPress address (URI) and Blog address (URI) to the new directory of mysite.com/news and click save, it gives me the following error:

    Object not found!

The requested URL was not found on this server. The link on the referring page seems to be wrong or outdated. Please inform the author of that page about the error.

And then I can’t access my administration panel again and have to go back to Changing the Site again to get access. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. All of my WordPress files are in my root still (I haven’t moved them into the “news” directory yet). Sigh.

You’re obviously missing a step. Try Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory instead.

Thank you! This did the trick. Was missing a small but important step, as predicted. I appreciate your help.
