Hi, my problem with WordPress is that I can not correctly access the WordPress folder from within my local network. It works great when accessing it from another computer with a different external ip address.

It works however for a computer on the LAN to access other folders and php files on the server that is not in the WordPress folder. So it must be something with WordPress I guess.

By editing the site URL in the dashboard to the root instead of “…/wp” I can access the site itself from a computer in my LAN, and also the login page, but it doesn’t work to login. It just wait forever trying to login.

I’m using WordPress 3.1.2 installed on Ubuntu Server 11.04.

Any advice appreciated, thanks in advance!

What urls did you enter in Settings->General?

    I entered:
    WordPress address (URL): http://myhost.dyndns.org/wp
    Site address (URL): http://myhost.dyndns.org

By changing the Site address as I’ve done here, as I removed the “/wp”, it makes me able to see the main page from a PC on my LAN, but not login, as I mentioned. If I keep the default settings, with Site address same as WordPress address, it makes me unable to reach even the main page from a PC on the LAN.

Both urls should be the same unless WP is in a sub-folder yet running the domain root: http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory

Okay, so I change this back so both WordPress address and Site address being http://myhost.dyndns.org/wp then. And now I have the problem computers on the LAN can’t access this address and not even see main page…

I think this is a networking issue – not a WordPress one.

You shouldn’t need to use dyndns unless you are trying to access the site from outside the LAN, which means that you have some people accessing from outside the LAN and some from inside but all of it is running through dyndns, which I’d bet is the problem. As esmi said, sounds like a networking issue not a WordPress one. Have you looked into setting up a VPN?
