• Hello

I tried setting up this plugin after WordPress stopped sending email from a contact form. My page is running on an ancient version of WordPress – 4.7.2 – and this was one of the only SMTP plugins listed as compatible.

I entered all my SMTP details and clicked “save” and was immediately met with an Error 500 page. The root page still loads correctly but the admin panel is not accessible – I can’t even load the login page.

I tried loading with ?nocache=value in case it was a caching issue but this didn’t help. I also tried in a different browser but the result was the same.

How do I get back in to manage my page after this plugin crashed the admin control panel? Please help.

    Cheers
    Adrian

  • Hello @adrianvlrp,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

Can you please let us know which PHP version you use?

An easy way to deactivate the plugin is to rename the file in wp_root\wp-content\plugins and add an extra letter.

    Thank you,

    Beatrice.

    Hi Beatrice

Thanks for getting back to me. I managed to get this sorted out the following day and I believe the person who helped me did exactly as you suggested, except they deleted the directory instead of renaming it.

I’ve since moved the website so I can’t remember exactly what it ran on, but I think it was PHP 7.4… it hasn’t been updated since the website was created I think in 2017.

I’ve got it on the newest PHP and WordPress version now so email is working again.

    Cheers
    Adrian
