• Hi there,

    I recently deleted a previous website to start from scratch, using the same domain name.

    I used my hosting provider to do so, and recreated a new database as well as installed wordpress.

    But now I cannot access my admin screen anymore, it displays the following message : “there has been a critical error on this website”. On the other hand, the regular website is displayed properly (yet no plugin or themes are used so it’s kinda empty right now)

    I’m willing to give you all the informations you need in order to help me fix it, just let me know !

    Thank you !

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Errors like this are logged. Check the error log on your server. If you can’t find the log, please contact your host.

    Meantime, enable wp_debug and wp_debug_log and after an error, look at wp-content/debug.log to see if anything gets logged there. https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/article/debugging-in-wordpress/

    You can also try this: Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

    If you cannot access wp-admin, there are other ways to deactivate plugins:Β  https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/article/faq-troubleshooting/#how-to-deactivate-all-plugins-when-not-able-to-access-the-administrative-menus

    @sterndata, I already tried disabling plugins using ftp, did not change anything. I will look for the logs !
    @t-p hey i assumed there was no theme but I guess it uses the one you quoted by default !

    @sterndata, I edited the wp-config.php file using the code provided in the link you gave me, but I cannot find the debug.log file anywhere. I’m using my FTP to do so, checking under wp-content directory. Any idea what i’m doing wrong ?

    Also, I did not mention it earlier, but I deleted previous website because it got hacked and I didn’t want to take any risk. While my previous website was online, he was labelled as dangerous by google. And now that’s i’m working (at least trying to work) on my new website, it got labelled as dangerous by google again, for a short period, then went back to safe. Is it related to my previous website ?

    Sorry for all those questions, I’m totally lost

    I don’t know what google knows… and they wouldn’t tell us anyway. πŸ™

    Did you turn on WP_DEBUG_LOG?

    What’s in the server logs?

    Thread Starter volpa

    (@volpa)

    Damn Google πŸ™

    I turned on wp debug, using that code :

    // Enable WP_DEBUG mode
    define( 'WP_DEBUG', true );

    // Enable Debug logging to the /wp-content/debug.log file
    define( 'WP_DEBUG_LOG', true );

    // Disable display of errors and warnings
    define( 'WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false );
    @ini_set( 'display_errors', 0 );

    The server logs are supposed to be given by my host ? I cannot find them anywhere on my host page.

    -> Finally managed to find them, using my FTP, I now have access to 2 directories ; archives and live, in live are 3 txt files, access.log, error.log and language.log.

    Is one of those files the one i’m supposed to find ?

    Ask your host about the server logs and set WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY to true as well.

    I edited my previous message, but i’m not familiar with this forum so I don’t know if it gives you a notification in that situation, so here’s my update :

    Anything PHP related in error.log around the time(s) you get the error at /wp-admin?

    Thread Starter volpa

    (@volpa)

    So, considering I don’t know anything about error logs, I don’t seem to find time related informations in here, so here are the different lines i get :

    apache2[4]: [fastcgi:error] [pid 4:tid 140571637171968] [client 114.119.150.28:32804] FastCGI: server “/fast-cgi-real-php7-3” stderr: Unable to open primary script: /flex/storage/cachalot.fr/site/www/0znw3s/index.php (Permission denied), referer: http://labaik.umla.ac.id/bojvo/copenhagen-to-paris.html

    (this message is the one recurring the most in all the logs, with the referer part changing everytime)

    Those two also appears sometimes

    Finally, in the middle of all the factcgi:error, i found those 5 lines :

    I’m really sorry about the amount of informations you have to go through, I have no idea how to locate which line refers to my connection attempts πŸ™

    Ask your host if there’s a PHP error log available.

    I don’t get an error at /wp-login.php, so see if you can login there. If you can, then disable all plugins and see if /wp-admin is working.

    Thread Starter volpa

    (@volpa)

    I’ve contacted them and asked for a php error log, waiting for their answer.

    I don’t get an error either, I’ll log in and see if plugins are disabled, but they should be disabled already, I changed the plugin directory name using FTP earlier.

    Also, I tried loging in using the login.php page, but it keeps saying my password is incorrect, although I never changed it.

    Interesting. I’m wondering if your site has been hacked. At this point, I’m not getting any content from your home page. Do you (or does your host) have a backup from before this all blew up?

    Thread Starter volpa

    (@volpa)

    Like I said previously, the previous website at this domain got hacked, so I deleted the previous sql database as well as the wordpress installation, then generated a new database and installed wordpress again.

    I managed to log in by reinitializing my password, but after that step, it took me back to critical error page.

    Still waiting for my host answer for the server logs. I’ll let you know if I have any news.

    EDIT : as for the blank page, it might be because I deleted a file (log) using my FTP because windows told me it had a virus when I tried to open it. I don’t know if this is related to the blank page issue.

    Thanks a lot for your help and time !
