Can't create a child theme

Since this is set up as a child theme and not as its own theme, I can’t make my own child theme to make edits such as making the text appear next to the pictures in the blogs.

Is it possible to set it up as its own theme rather than a child theme? I love the idea, but there is so much I would like to add.
