I just started using Google Web Stories. Last night I created my first unpublished story but as of today I can’t edit it or create any new stories. Instead, I get an error message “ERR_HTTP2_PROTOCOL_ERROR” whether I try to edit or create a story.

    I’ve tried the following:

    – I’ve added the exceptions /web-stories/(.*), /wp-admin/(.*), and /(.*)/amp in Advanced Rules to WP Rocket.
    – I’ve disabled Minify Javascript files in WP Rocket.
    – I’ve deactivated all plugins.

Still no dice. I have the following plugins and no CDN.

    – Akismet Anti-Spam
    – AMP
    – Contact Form 7
    – Embed PDF Viewer
    – Favicon by RealFaviconGenerator
    – Gutenberg PDF Viewer Block
    – Health Check & Troubleshooting
    – Imagify
    – Jetpack by WordPress.com
    – Limit Login Attempts Reloaded
    – MailPoet 3 (New)
    – MailPoet 3 Premium (New)
    – Podcast Subscribe Buttons
    – SB-RSS_feed-plus
    – Seriously Simple Podcasting
    – Site Kit by Google
    – Web Stories
    – WP Rocket
    – Yoast SEO

  • @poeticdiligence Thanks for reaching out with your topic and providing all of those details.

Does this message “This site can’t be reached. The webpage at https://[domain]/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=web-story might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address” (or something similar) display before “ERR_HTTP2_PROTOCOL_ERROR”?

The error message comes from your browser, as opposed to the Web Stories plugin, and possibly indicates a misconfigured HTTPS setup. As there can be various reasons for ERR_HTTP2_PROTOCOL_ERROR errors such as a site/server configuration issue or caused by an ad blocker, I suggest reaching out to your hosting provider for help.

I just spent the last two hours on the phone with GoDaddy and they couldn’t find any issues. My website is https://www.judahmahay.com. I’m still having the same issues. According to GoDaddy my SSL and DNS are setup perfectly and cPanel has no problems either. I’ve deactivated ad blockers on my web browser and it hasn’t helped. Any other suggestions?

@poeticdiligence Thank you for the update. Do you encounter this error in an incognito window with all other plugins disabled and using a default theme (e.g. Twenty Twenty-One)?

Try the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin and enable its troubleshooting mode. This mode disables active plugins and switches to a default theme safely because it only affects the experience of the logged-in user.

    – Please enable the Web Stories plugin and let me know if the issue is present.
    – Enabling plugins and your theme one by one in this mode may help pinpoint if something else is involved.
    – Note you can disable troubleshooting mode from the plugins page.

Thank you so much. It worked when I activated maintenance mode. Then as I reactivated each plugin, Yoast SEO broke the app. I don’t know how I missed it, but something about Yoast SEO doesn’t work well with Google Web Stories. Thank you for walking me through this. I really appreciate the help.

@poeticdiligence Thank you so much for the update! Hope you enjoy making stories and if you have any other issues please feel free to reach out. As always, we welcome any feedback you’d like to share.

    Have a good day.
