I cannot enable Two-factor authentication on this site. I click on either “on” or “auto” and the pop up asks me for a code. The code is not sent. I have tried this many times over the past few months and no code is ever sent. I have checked my spam folder and tested that I can receive emails on the email address that the code is being sent to and the email address is working fine.

I deleted and reinstalled the plugin after checking “Complete deactivation”. A user that looks like a hacker has successfully logged in to my site from various countries, so I desperately need to enable Two-factor authentication before my site is infected.

    Hello.
Please, check the outgoing mail from your website: the authorization letter is sent by your SMTP server, not the CleanTalk servers.
    Did it help?

How do I do that please? I did look into this at the time, but I might be overcomplicating things. Do I need to install a plugin to check the outgoing mail?

You have to contact your hosting support, so they can help you.

    Thank you.

I spent a great deal of time trying to figure out a solution with my hosting company and nothing seemed to work. I have resorted to using a separate plugin to enable 2FA.

    Hi @paulhillguitarist,

    Thank you for reply.

Could you please let me known the separate plugin name? Do you use Email to obtain security code in that plugin?

My hosting company recommended WP 2FA, so I used that. It was quick and easy to set up. I have spent a ton of time using various software tools since then so I can’t remember the exact process as it was quick and easy, but I think it was a case of scanning the barcode with an app that supports 2FA.

    Thanks for sharing your experience!

Looks like in your case the Bar code + mobile app is only way that works.

No problem. I’m sure there is a solution, but no point in spending any more time on the problem as I have found a workaround.
