As you mentioned in your post, you get the API key from a wordpress.COM account. Not to be confused with ww.wp.xz.cn (these forums) or an installed wordpress blog at your own site.
the .COM part of that is the key 😉

I may be doing something wrong because I am a newbie, but I like person in the post right before me, cannot find that elusive API key. I went to my admin. dashboard and I clicked on the “my Profile” icon and I even clicked on the “User” icon and both took me to the “Your Profile and Personal Options page, but I still didn’t see the API key. And like the member in front of me, I looked for an email, but I never saw one with a key.
If you can help so that I can activate Akismet and other plug ins I would appreciate.
