• built a new WordPress site over an old one. I deleted all the folders before rebuilding the site with a new name, old URL. The previous site had WordPress installed in another directory other than the root. The root directory had another folder, which previously was seen first when the website was accessed in the browser. I deleted the old WordPress folders and the folder in the root directory before installing the new WordPress folders in the root directory. I was still getting the old folder’s contents accessed when the URL was typed into the browser and not WordPress. WordPress forum suggested removing the URL from the cookies in the options, privacy section of Firefox, which I did. Now I can no longer access the website, either the wrong folder or the new WordPress site. I get a white screen. I am able to get the WordPress dashboard when typing MYSITE.org/wp-admin into the browser, but can’t get the site when I try to access it in a new tab–white screen. Can you help?

  • Did you actually re-install WordPress?. Or just re-upload the files & folders?

I’m not sure I know the difference between a re-install and a re-upload. I used Filezilla to delete all the folders from the original site, re-uploaded the files and folders with a new version of WordPress, built a new database with new username and password, and changed the config file to reflect the new database. I can’t find any evidence of the former folder into which I had installed WordPress.
