Can't "Open wp-admin/install.php in your browser." | ww.wp.xz.cn

I installed MAMP on my Macbook and have both the Apache and SQL server running. I downloaded WordPress and have been following the instructions for installation on a Mac. When I get to:
“Open wp-admin/install.php in your browser.” for the install, Firefox won’t open it. Neither will Safari.

Firefox just asks me what I want to do with install.php, save or open with __?__. Any thoughts on what to do are greatly appreciated! I’m a newbie.

Have you got the WP files in the right place ? I’m not sure about macs but on the win version any documents that you want to be seen by the browser have to go onto the htdocs folder.

what are you putting into the browser address bar? you’re supposed to navigate to it like a normal webpage.

it might be http://localhost/wp-admin/install.php

I tried http://localhost/wp-admin/install.php and got the message
Unable to Connect in Firefox
Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at localhost.

But I tried
http://localhost:8888/wp-admin/install.php that did it for me. WP installed now!! Many Thanks!!
