Hi, trying optimize firewall in TWO wordpress websites (in same hosting). But I getting same error in two websites:

We were unable to create the wordfence-waf.php file in the root of the WordPress installation. It’s possible WordPress cannot write to the wordfence-waf.php file because of file permissions. Please verify the permissions are correct and retry the installation.

I created wordfence-waf.php manually, also php.ini, .htaccess also done, checked all permissions, set to 777. PHP version 5.3.3

Also I noticed that not working “Click to view your system’s configuration in a new window” tool. Getting just blank window.

    Please help!!!
P.S. I using Wordfence in another three websites- optimization and installation was successful without any errors.

    Hi @webiana,

The first thing you want to do is to upgrade PHP to version 5.6 or newer.

Another thing to try would be to temporarily deactivate all other plugins and attempt to carry out the optimization procedure again.

    Also, could you please:

    • Go to the Wordfence Tools page
    • Click the Diagnostics tab
    • Scroll down to the Send Report by Email section
    • Send the report to yann[at]wordfence[dot]com

    Hi,
    Thank you for answer.
I have other websites in another server with same PHP version, and wordfence setup done without errors.
Also I tried deactivate all plugins- did not help.
    Email was sent.

    Thank you for help.

    Hi @webiana,

From the Diagnostics information you sent, it appears that:

    • The web server doesn’t have write access to ~/plugins/wordfence/tmp
    • The MySQL user doesn’t have any of the required privileges

Please adjust permissions accordingly and check back on the Diagnostics page again (Filesystem and MySQL sections)

    Hi Yann,

    Thanks for reply.
I found solution. Problem was not in MySQL user permissions nor ~/plugins/wordfence/tmp access.
Problem was in website PHP configuration in server.
Was Apache mode with CGI support, I just changed mode to PHP (5.3.3) and disabled CGI.
    Now working fine 😉
    Thanks again.
