Since installation of WordPress 3.6, my readers can’t post comments. When one clicks on “Leave a reply” or the weird speech balloon in this theme, no comment box appears. This worked for my last post in late July, but no longer works since v. 3.6 was installed. I am not HTML savvy–that’s why I use WordPress, since it makes blogging easy, and I can find no tick-box for “Allow comments” in the posting screen below the post, as one commenter suggested. I’ve had this problem off and on with this theme (which I otherwise like a lot) for several months. BTW, I briefly tried Twenty Thirteen, but found the options and text quality so poor that I went back to Twenty Eleven. My WordPress blog can be found at http://www.peterhgreen.com/blog . Please help! Thanks, Peter

  • Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all other plugins deactivated?

esmi, Thanks for your response. I changed to the Twenty Thirteen theme, deactivated all plug-ins and tried to go to the comment field. I noticed that it was trying to load http://www.peterhgreen.com/blog/peterhgreen#response, but no comment box appeared, just the reloaded main page. Then I reactivated Twenty Eleven theme, went to the Settings/General page and played around with Site URLs and got an error message that the site was redirecting wrong. Now I’m locked out of the editing site and can’t do anything. The page has been left in disarray without a theme. It doesn’t recognize my log in and asks if I want to register peterhgreen.wordpress.com, which I thought I had done five years ago and redirected it to peterhgreen.com. How can I get logged back in? Thanks for any suggestions you can make.

    played around with Site URLs

You’ll need to change those back – see:

Thanks WPYogi. I’m trying the FTP method, but I can’t find a combination of site url ftp://ww.wp.xz.cn? or ftp://ww.wp.xz.cn/peterhgreen.com?) blog and port no. that will get me to hte php files. can you give me any clues to the protocol?

ww.wp.xz.cn has absolutely nothing to do with your self-hosted WordPress site. Contact your hosts fort assistance with your FTP.

You need to get your FTP info from your hosting company – it’s not related to this site at all.

Thanks WPyogi. I contacted Yahoo Small Business, and they solved the redirection problem. I now know where my ww.wp.xz.cn files reside (hosted by Yahoo) and I know where to edit them. The problem of comment requests being redirected “in a way that will never be completed” remains unsolved. When anyone tries to enter a comment, the program redirects it ro: peterhgreen.com/blog/peterhgreen#response. What PhP files do I need to change to redirect correctly, so comment boxes will appear onscreen, and what shall I enter there?
Thanks for any help you can offer. Peter

By the way, the reason the site got redirected when I tried to change it was that I improperly identified my URL as a WordPress.com site, rather than a ww.wp.xz.cn site, which it is.

Themediva, Can you tell me what PhP files I need to change to redirect my comments correctly? Thanks. Peter.

Can we see the site using the default Twenty Thirteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

Esmi, I have tried what you suggested, and, yes, I can get to a comment box. Is there any way for me to keep the Twenty Eleven theme? I have invested a lot of time in customizing it and would hate to lose it. I really need SEO and the WordPress Anti-spam plug-in. Thanks for your help. Peter

Delete the theme and re-upload it. You never edit any theme downloaded from ww.wp.xz.cn. Instead create a child theme for your changes. Or install a custom CSS plugin.

Thanks, Esmi. The reload seems to have fixed whatever was wrong with Twenty Eleven. My customizations were from menu options, and they were present upon re-activation of the theme. Believe me, I wouldn’t know how to tamper with the HTML and wouldn’t attempt it! Peter

Thanks, everyone for your advice. Reloading the theme and disabling any plug-in that filters comments has restored the comment function. Peter
