I am just getting started with WordPress for the first time, I created two WordPress sites at the same time, one on my digital oceans server and another locally (for learning). On my local install, I am not able to search for Themes, I would post a screen shot but this forum seems like lack the feature. But here’s the message I am getting when I go to Appearance > Themes > Add New Theme, it begins loading and takes forever for whatever reason and then outputs: “An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with ww.wp.xz.cn or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.”, installed my digital oceans version pretty much the same way, within the same hour or two and it’s working fine. Any ideas? This is holding me back because my local version of WordPress is for learning and my DO version is a site I’ve agreed to do for a friend, but my learning is hindered because now I am unable to continue with my Udemy WordPress course. Thanks. Also, local install is just a standard LAMP stack using Linux Mint.

The message indicates that your local installation may not be able to talk to the Internet. As a result, no data on themes can be retrieved.

It is also possible that your local installation generally does not allow access to the Internet. In this case, you should not be able to search for plugins, for example. Unfortunately, it is not possible to tell you here how this block is implemented by your local system as nobody knows your system. One possible reason could be a firewall.

Also have a look at Tools > Site Health to see if any errors are reported there.

If you have already installed plugins, deactivate them as a test. Security plugins could also be causing the problem.
