Hi,
ww.wp.xz.cn rules don’t allow queries connected to purchases to be dealt with on their website – https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Forum_Welcome#Commercial_Products – so please post here instead: https://updraftplus.com/paid-support-requests/
Best wishes,
David

David,
You misunderstood.
This is about the free backup tool that you just updated five days ago or so.
I was just being nice saying I also bought stuff. I’m not a complete mooch.

Hi,
Ah, sorry – I was going too fast (one of our support staff is off sick today!).
When WordPress updates a plugin, it (the plugin itself is not involved) does this:
1) Downloads the new zip file
2) Unzips it
3) Deletes the old directory in wp-content/plugins
4) Moves the unzipped directory from 2) into wp-content/plugins
If this fails, then it usually means that the webserver is having performance troubles, such that the webserver’s configured timeout is lower than the time taken doing 1)-4) above before it ran out. If that happens consistently, then it’s probably time to find a new web hosting company. As a work-around, you could just try it at a ‘quieter’ time (for website visits) of day (usually early morning or late night, unless you enjoy the middle of the night). Or you could do the same procedure as above by hand, i.e. by FTP.
