I migrated a WordPress site over to its live destination, and am getting this error now:

“ShortPixel is not able to write to the uploads folder so it cannot optimize images, please check permissions”

The uploads folder permissions on the new site are 755, I think that’s right.

It looks like it’s still trying to write files to the development website instead of the live site. I tried deleting the plugin and reinstalling it, but get the same error.

    Hi,
    thanks for your message.

From our experience this kind of errors occur when you change hosting providers or migrate sites (like you did) because the files have different ownership and not only because of the file permissions.

Please make sure all your files and folders on your live site have both the permissions (755 should be OK) and the ownership right. The owner of the files should be the same as the web server so it can work properly.

You may want to ask you hosting provider for assistance with this.

I would appreciate your follow up on this.

    Thanks,
    Alex

Looks like the file upload path in WordPress’s Settings > Media did not update during migration. (I use a program to do it and normally never have an issue.) It was still set to the staging site. Updated the path and all is well now. Thankfully a simple fix. Thanks!

How did you update the path?

I also had that issue with file ownership after server migration. Just chowned the files to the right owner and everything works fine now.
