How to show Captcha on the subscription form and widget?

Enable it on security page. It’s a “second step” captcha.

Yep, done that. What do you mean ‘second step’? Can I not enable it on the primary subscription form?
No, since hand coded forms wouldn’t work.
Can you explain please?
