@melissaschmitt – The Basic Slideshow does not offer a caption by default. I would strongly suspect you were using some sort of custom template and/or the plugin’s core code was modified to display the caption.
I would suspect you could also re-modify the code as needed to get these captions to re-display.

Thank you Cais! It was so long ago that I put the slideshow in the page, that I do not recall what I did 🙂 Have to investigate a bit.
@melissaschmitt – It’s not a standard feature (even though we are looking into adding it). Your alternative is to consider our NextGEN Pro displays … the Pro Slideshow does offer caption options by default.
