Categorize a variant

Is there a way to break up options in a variant. For example.

We have a product that has two variations. Color and Size. We would like to break Color up into Standard and Premium–almost as a subvariant. It doesn’t seem to make sense to have the color options as separate variations, we really just want to call them out separately to distinguish them. (ie have a variant named “Color” and have two distinct lists under the one variant)

Does anyone have a solution for this?
