Categorizing 404s

    A suggestion for augmenting the functionality of the 404 page:

    I would find it useful to be able to categorize each record so as to more easily distinguish hackers; errors in search engines; other bots; errors in links in a site; and legitimate visitors who typed in an non-existent URL. Each of these cases has a different workflow to follow up on the 404.

    The ability to do batch updates of such a category would make such functionality much more efficient.

    It isn’t straightforward to categorise URLs like that, but
    more useful information is planned for the future.

    Indeed. But it would be useful nonetheless to let the user categorize them manually.

    Sure, and that is something that will come at the same time. It is still a considerable amount of work.
