Such a strange thing, this has been going on since WordPress 3.0, but it never really bothered me until I needed to post some things. The category link is missing from the menu under Posts and also, the little category widget on the edit/add post pages.

I have even called the page directly in my browser but it returns page not found. I run the Shop plugin and a few others, but disabling all plugins does not fix the issue.

I’m really stumped on this… I’m trying to avoid backing up everything and doing a fresh install, simply because of the massive amount of data that I have in this install. Anybody have any ideas?

  • Have you tried:

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

    – increasing the memory available to PHP?

Seemed as if resetting the plugins folder fixed it. There were a few plugin folders still in FTP that were not listed in WordPress or used in a long time, so thanks! Issue resolved.
