Having an automatic updater, I’m now having to go through dozens of sites and remove this plugin manually. HUGE work! I can’t say I’m impressed

After updating the Google Analytics plugin about 30 min. ago, I’m completely locked out of our WordPress site.
When I enter the URL for admin, I get a white screen that reads:
Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /home/content/22/8003822/html/wp-content/plugins/googleanalytics/class/Ga_Admin.php on line 106.
I’d appreciate advice on how I can access the site and fix the problem if I cannot even call up our site, never mind get into the Admin console.
I got the same error. Panicked… then I deleted the plugin folder via FTP to regain access to my site. Not sure if that’s the correct method but it worked.

Hi dokrugby,
You can remove the plugin via your FTP by deleting the plugin.
This would require access to your control panel via your web hosting solution.
Once logged into your FTP, you can find the folder under:
/public-html/domain-name.com/wp-content/plugins/googleanalytics/
Delete the whole folder of /googleanalytics/ and you should have access to your WordPress dashboard again.

Additionally if you’re interested in re-installing the older version for the time being, you can download that by going to our ‘Developers’ tab and clicking on version 1.0.7.

Great news, we found that the issue is related to PHP versions being outdated. The plugin was causing errors for those who are not updated past version 5.5.
