CDATA format for image in rss feed?

    Hi —

    I wonder if my theme is doing something weird with the Featured Image? I believe I have it set correctly in the plugin, but still doesn’t show up in Mailchimp.

    When I look at the feed (www.bradlarson.com/feed), I notice the following code is inserted for the featured image:

    <content:encoded><![CDATA[Community Stories Augmented Reality (AR) Prototype

    Is that expected? Mailchimp doesn’t seem to pick it up. (I tried waiting overnight thinking there may be a delay, but no luck). Thanks!

    PS — in order to get my mailing out today, I may remove the image from my most current post via the plugin and set the image manually in the Mailchimp…

    The CDATA sections are normal to see in an RSS feed, to prevent HTML markup (such as image tags) from breaking.

    I’m looking at your raw feed output and at the moment, it does not look like the feed is being processed by the plugin–have you deactivated or removed it? It looks like there is maybe some agent (whether the theme or a plugin) acting on the feed to do something to the images, but I am not seeing the changes my plugin adds.

    Thanks Robin! I think I’ve had multiple layers of caching going on that had made this tricky to debug. (Chrome cache of rss feed, possibly Sucuri cache, and a delay I’ve noted at Mailchimp maybe due to timezone settings not read by Mailchimp).

    I did get the Featured Image to show up (great!), but I noticed that the YouTube video I had embedded after that disappeared. I had used the iframe code from YouTube, and became stripped out of the rss, even though it had been there in previous versions.

    Is there anything from the plugin that might strip out iframes? I’m trying to think if there’s anything else I touched while working on the Featured Image, but don’t recall.

    Hey Brad, looks like you found a bug! I’m sorry about that, but thank you for finding it. Basically, when the plugin adds the featured image to the full content, it was also running a sanitization filter on it, and that was cleaning out iframes, which would include youtube videos.

    I will get the updated plugin released soon–if you need the fix earlier, you can download the latest version of the plugin directly from Github–really the file which would need to be replaced is the class-sendimagesrss.php in the includes directory. If you are not comfortable swapping out the plugin files with FTP, I would disable the plugin from adding the featured image for the moment until the new version is released.

    Hi Robin — thanks for being so responsive! That’s helpful to know, I’ll send a manual image out this month (via Mailchimp design), and then catch up with the updated plugin when I send again.
