We created certificates created using the merge fields, {first_name} {last_name}. When these awarded certificates are viewed on the backend LifterLMS Reporting page (click a student user, then the Certificate tab), the viewed certificates show the logged in user instead of the user that earned the certificate. I.e. if an admin is viewing the certificates earned by a student, that certificate’s merge fields show the admin’s name instead of the student’s name. That appears to be a bug.

Also, it would be helpful to have the date the certificate was awarded available as a merge field in addition to the {current_date} merge field.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • @teamim,

I’m not seeing this bug you’re reporting on my testing sites. If you’re on the certificate tab and you click the Title of the cert you’ll see the earned certificate with the student’s data, if you click the ID and then click “View” from the certificate edit screen you will see the current user’s data merged in for the purposes of editing / building certificates.

The {current_date} will always display the date awareded. Certificates are merged the moment they’re created and stored in the database that way. That means if you view a certificate that was earned 2 years ago, the current_date merge code will display the date that certificate was earned 2 years ago, not today.

Again, when viewing the certificate from the editor you’ll always see the current date at that moment (again for building purposes).

One final note: You can easily tell if you’re looking at a student’s already-merged cert or the “template” from the editor by checking the URL bar. A merged cert earned by a student will have “my_certificate” in the URL, the “template” will just say “certificate”

    Hope that helps,

It does help. We were trying to award certificates to students that had completed a course before the certificates were created. I see now we missed some steps.

    Thanks!
