You can do that via the Author meta box on the Edit Post screen for any post. Here is a quick guide:

Yes, that is what I am doing but it does not change the Author as it appears when the post is shown either in the Dashboard or a visitors view.
Posts created within the Dashboard as New Post can have the author changed.
I’m not sure, but there are a couple of settings that may be involved:
– Registered Username
– Disable Replace Author
Especially the “Disable Replace Author”, make sure that is enabled/checked.
That sorted it.
I had to enable “Disable Replace Author”. !that’s a confusing statement!
