@lambda69, where specifically is that happening for you — updating the Labels section? Not currently experiencing any updating issues on either test / dev site on this end.

It seems like it happens to just about everything – Zoom level, distance measurement units(km instead of miles), auto-locate user checkbox and even the country and language setting.

When I apply changes and press “update”, a message notifies me that changes have been made successfully. But if I navigate away from the page and return, they are set back to their defaults.

    1) Have you just installed for the first time?
    2) Have you modified any code?
    3) Also, it’s very helpful also to provide your website address

    1) I am new to wordpress, this is the second plug-in that I have installed. The other one worked fine. I have definitely activated the plug-in. What is interesting is that this application has taken data from the other plug in I installed (SLPLUS). It was able to populate stores without my having to input them again.

    2) I did open the php files and had a browse through some of them, but I definitely did not edit anything. I suppose it is possible that I might have accidentally hit a key but I don’t think so – I could uninstall and reinstall to be sure?

    3) Apologies, it is my first time posting here and wasn’t sure of the forum etiquette.

UPDATE: when I logged in this morning and tried to update the MapDesigner settings, a message came up asking for permissions to certain files to ensure that updates where made properly. It also said something about possibly needing to FTP.

    Thanks

    1) Ok, both plugins can’t be turned on at the same time — only use one or the other — that’s where your issue is
    2) No, don’t worry, see #1
    3) All notices with Store Locator are there to guide you to maximize your Store Locator usage — follow the instructions and you should be fine

    1) I made sure the other plug in was deactivated before I used this one. There might possibly have been a few seconds when they were both activated. In any case, I never used both of them at the same time on the site.
I have now deactivated and deleted both of them and then reinstalled Store Locator only. It has still remembered the store names from before and it still has the same update problem as before.

    3) I allowed the permissions that it asked for – not sure what the FTP thing was about. Is there anyway I could find that message again?

Are there perhaps .config files or something that remain behind in wordpress once a plug-in has been deactivated and/or removed?

This certainly seems to be the case – how else would the program remember stores that were input even after the original program has been removed?

Locations are stored in the database. Deleting the plugin’s files doesn’t automatically delete data from the database.
