Hello. It appears a recent update has prevented the previously working user registration form from creating new users. It tells me I can enable “anyone can register” for it to work again or use the “/registration” link. The /registration link goes to a 404.

I dont want anyone to register – only those who use the forminator registration form. Like it used to. Can I allow with forminator to create registrations but keep other means blocked?

  • Hi @katmacau

I hope you are doing well today.

In the last update, we have changed the behavior of the register form, as the previous state was creating confusion and posed a potential security risk for sites.

    Kind Regards,
    Kris

I see. I had missed that yellow note on the form. We only worked it out when customers registrations stopped working. I’ve enabled allow new registrations setting and it fixed the issue. But I had to add some custom code so people could only register on the front end via that form and not the default wordpress method to create a new account.

@wpmudevsupport13 A warning about this change before you made it would have been nice, and that’s being kind.

Like the user above we didn’t pick up on this until members started submitting support requests, and even then we have a standard reply to cover the common reasons, so it took way too long to learn about these changes. We are using that form to block the default login because we needed the notifications it generated. For now we had to turn registration off completely while we manually create all the failed submissions and resolve this when our focus should be on better things.

    Hello @darknessfalls,

I hope things are going well for you.

I appreciate your concern, which is truly understandable. Let me share the other end of the situation in the Forminator update: 1.48.0 (2025-10-06) here: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/forminator/#developers. If you look there, you’ll see around 30 enhancements and fixes have been done recently, so having everything informed as before may not be really possible. When we roll out updates, we also release a changelog like the one above.

Additionally, our team has added a notice here too: https://monosnap.ai/file/V3VtuMiOSYkMlswfNI8YbQmPOBE8XW, in case someone is configuring a new form.

I recommend reviewing the plugin changelogs to stay quickly updated on new releases so you can make adjustments. However, we rarely do this; we did it mainly to respect the WordPress network settings.

I hope this information will be helpful to you.

    Kind Regards,
    Imran Khan

@wpmudev-support9 Take some responsibility for your actions. I do review change logs, and the only mention of this change is listed as an enhancement not a breaking change:

“Enhancement: Respect WordPress settings that disable user registration and display a notice on the Form Editor screen for registration forms”

An enhancement that is going to “Respect WordPress settings” was supposed to inform me that the update would cause our registration submissions to silently fail?

I agree that there’s no need to inform users about general updates and changes, but when you make a change that not only breaks our site, but does it silently, that needed to be properly communicated in advance.

Our workflows rely on the notifications from that form, so not only did I have to shut down registrations until I can find a solution that works, but I also have to manually create several accounts and send apologies to all of those users then manually add them back into our workflows.

It’s the end of the year and I have much more important things to be doing than cleaning up your mess.

    Hi @darknessfalls,

I understand your concern, and we are extremely sorry about the inconvenience this might have caused. I have also shared your feedback with the Forminator team.

That being said, it may not always be possible to share every change in advance, and we understand this can create concern. We encourage checking the plugin after each update so you can confirm that everything continues to work as intended and address any issues that come up during use.

Please feel free to contact us if anything comes up. We understand how important it is for your setup to run smoothly, and we are here to help you.

    Best Regards,
    Nebu John
