• I cannot change the footer.php file at all. I get permission errors in FTP and if I try to edit it in my control panel I don’t see a way to click save. Instead, I see a link to this page http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Changing_File_Permissions. I have no idea what to do. I am the admin and I can’t figure this out for the life of me. I want to change a simple link and I’ve already spent 2 hours on this. I’ve never seen this before. Can someone please walk me through what to do???

  • Change the permissions on the theme’s files to 766. If you still have problems, try 767 or 777.

When I do it through my FTP client I get: “Make sure that your username and password are entered correctly. If the problem persists, contact your server administrator.”

Contact your hosts. They make have to change the ownership on that theme’s folder. In fact, ask them to change the ownership of wp-content and all of its sub-folders, if possible.

There’s no way for me to change it? How did this happen?

That’s a question you may need to direct to your hosts.
