    Hi
I have been changing all the email templates due to changes in data protection laws in Europe. However, I found in my tests that the change membership level doesnt work properly. If I go in to a users account and change their membership level it always defaults to a membership level I call ‘FREE VIP Unlimited’ . I change the membership level, next to the field it says ‘not paying’, I have tried selecting cancel at gateway and leaving it to not cancel at gateway, ive tried setting it to expire and to not expire but whatver I do after saving the changes it defaults to the membership level ‘FREE VIP unlimited’
    Can anybody help please

I’ve just realised I used PMP with Braintree. So I wonder if the integration with them could cause issues with this. I will email their support as well but if anybody has any ideas I would appreciate any help

I had a response from Braintree and they did think it was possible that the payment gateway integration could be the source of the issue. One key thing they said was this
“1. If you are using Braintree’s recurring billing, it’s likely that changing membership levels to FREE VIP Unlimited by default may be due to the API call invoked when attempting this action. In order to change this, you’d want whomever built your integration to utilize the subscription update (https://developers.braintreepayments.com/reference/request/subscription/update/ruby) API call. Once properly invoked, it would allow you to choose which updates to perform on a subscription. ”
This is too technical for me, does this make sense to anyone listening ?
    Thanks

    Hi @ahamaton,

Thank you for using Paid Memberships Pro.

If I go in to a users account and change their membership level it always defaults to a membership level I call ‘FREE VIP Unlimited’

Are you using any custom code that will set a default level when a user cancels? This is not default behavior.

I change the membership level, next to the field it says ‘not paying’

This is correct when an admin changes a membership level as it adjusts the user’s level. Does the subscription still stay active (In BrainTree) when you select “Cancel at gateway”?

    Hi there Andrew

    Thanks for your help

There is no custom coding, I just set it up as a level with no charges and I set it to not allow signups either either as this is a subscription only I can apply. It’s actually listed in the membership levels as FREE. Yes if I cancel the subscription through PMP it does cancel from Braintree. What did you think of the feedback I got from Braintree ?

I don’t think the API call to BrainTree should affect the level inside Paid Memberships Pro (being the way Paid Memberships Pro handles memberships.). By default we cancel the user’s level within WordPress and notify the payment gateway to cancel the subscription.

It may be a possibility and we will need to explore this issue further from our end. I have added it to our development schedule to debug further.

I’m sorry for the inconvenience caused.

No problem, thank you very much for your support Andrew

    You’re most welcome! 🙂

The best way to test this is to temporarily disable all plugins except Paid Memberships Pro and set your theme to TwentySeventeen and see if this issue still occurs.

Please keep us posted if anything changes.

If we can wait to see what your team says first I would appreciate it. The reason I say that is Im always a bit nervous doing that because it undoes my theme settings. If I take screenshots of the settings I can put it back together again but I haven’t done it yet and it will be a bit of pain and stress due to really stretched time. Is that OK ?
