Question: is there a way to change post-type, rather than having the plugin auto-identify it?

When publishing a new post, I’d prefer tumblr just get sent a link post, regardless of what type of post I’m publishing on my wordpress site. Tumblr does a fine job these days of pulling the default image, excerpt etc. when posting links.

The plugin doesn’t auto-identify your post’s Post type.

Poor choice of wording perhaps, but your documentation notes this:

The WordPress post format to Tumblr post type mapping looks like this:

WordPress’s Standard, Aside, and Status post formats become Tumblr’s Text post type
WordPress’s Image post format becomes Tumblr’s Photo post type
WordPress’s Video post format becomes Tumblr’s Video post type
WordPress’s Audio post format becomes Tumblr’s Audio post type
WordPress’s Quote post format becomes Tumblr’s Quote post type
WordPress’s Link post format becomes Tumblr’s Link post type
WordPress’s Chat post format becomes Tumblr’s Chat post type

Is there a way to be able to push a Standard post in WordPress to Tumblr as Tumblr’s link post type (and preferably to set that as a default)?

No. A post in Standard post format becomes a Text post on Tumblr, like the documentation says. If you want to post a Link post on Tumblr, use the Link post format on WordPress.
