I recently installed a plugin to mask the login.php link because unauthorized people were trying to log in. This got me to wondering… Can you just change the file name of login.php to something else? Would it have any negative effects? Thanks

It would almost certainly break wordpress.

As already written, renaming the file would break basic WordPress functions. However, there are ways to protect the login. I would recommend using a security plugin that prevents these attacks. You can find some examples here in the repository: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/tags/security/

Thanks. I already have a plugin and it works fine. I was just wondering if it could be done without a plugin.
