Hi! I have been using the theme Pique since creating my website more than five years ago. I’m interested in changing my theme and have been trying to test out others on a staging site but I think because of the unique nature of the Pique homepage, whenever I preview one, the new theme’s home page does not display correctly. Is there a way to on the staging site reset to the original settings for my homepage so I can look at each as the theme designer intended or is there something else I can do? I don’t believe I’ve ever actually changed a WordPress theme previously so am quite new at this, thanks!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • It looks like your site is hosted on BlueHost, and their support would be in a better position to guide you, and help you reset contents on the staging site, if your plan allows one.

If you are changing themes, then depending on the one you use, you will need to follow it’s setup guide to make the homepage look as per its design. Depending on whether you are using a newer Block theme vs an older Customizer- based theme, the steps would vary.

One other approach you may consider, is to create a fresh WordPress installation within a folder

    e.g. http://eastlinetheatre.org/new

build the website from scratch on that, and import whatever content you need selectively from the existing website. Once the site is ready, you can redirect the domain to this new folder or migrate and overwrite the contents of the older site with the one you created.

You can also use the plugin https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/wp-staging/ to create a staging system where you can make all the desired adjustments. Once you are done, you can transfer them back to the live system.
