I looked over your instructions to Changing The URL, and I’m kind’ve unsure if this is what I really want. I am replacing an existing website with my new WP site. But I want the same URL used. My host is Blue Host and they require that the home page be titled “index” and be placed in the public-HTML folder. So can i just dump the old site, change my new WP URL (help4elders.info/WP to help4elders.info) with your instructions via myPHPAdmin and it will work? Thank you for your help!
@rjgconsulting
Right now, your blog is installed in a sub-directory named “WP”
http://www.help4elders.info/WP/
If you want to move it to the root of your site (//www.help4elders.info) you can either reinstall, removing all of the existing files -or just renaming index.html, if you wish, but I find that sometimes messy- and place all of the WordPress files in the root of your site.
Read this information first. It may shed some helpful light on what you need to do to get WordPress installed/moved to the root of your domain, and what the best procedure might be for your situation.
Good luck to you.
Thanx Clayton James!!!!! It worked easily! Thank you! thank you!
You are most welcome! I am glad it helped.
I was reading this, and wonder if it would help me too…
I am using my university as a host. The site is ethnicity.rutgers.edu/wordpress, and I want to change it to ethnicity.rutgers.edu/Lincoln200
How can I do that?
I successfully changed the URL of my site, so everything is working except the RSS feed link, that is showing “Error establishing a database connection”.
I’m using WP 2.8.4 & Thesis 1.5.1 Theme.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks 😉
I have a blog 5metrescrum.com and i have realised that for seo purposes i am targeting keywords like rugby blog and rugby news ,my hosting gives me sub domains and i was wondering how i can change or include 5metrescrum.com/rugbyblog or 5metrescrum.com/rugbynews without loosing my site information
Please help me
Are you trying to put a different site in your root and have a blog attached, or do you just want to change the directory where WordPress is located?
You can just create a directory called rugbyblog or rugbynews, then follow
http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory
that’ll move the files to the subdirectory you create, while letting people access it from 5metrescrum.com
OR
you create a subdomain called either rugbynews or rugbyblog and follow http://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Moving_WordPress
which will allow people to access by going to 5metrescrum.com/rugbyblog or 5metrescrum.com/rugbynews
I’m not sure which goal you are heading towards, but either way you’ll keep your information as long as you follow the directions…..
