Changing website address

Hello all,

I have my wordpress site up and running with softaculous, but I seem to be having trouble changing my webiste address… I installed all my files in example.com/wp to keep things tidy in my files directory. However I do not want my website address to be example.com/wp. I would like it to be exmaple.com.

I try to change this in the wordpress admin options, but I might be changing the wrong thing because when I make this change I cannot et back into my site. Any help please.
