So, I had a custom url set up with tumblr and I was using wordpress on the side. Well, now I want to change this, making the wordpress blog as the main site and tumblr as a side site. I changed the tumblr site to [user name].tumblr.com and moved everything wordpress from the old url to the “new” one. The problem is that when I go to the url (http://paperbacklover.net) it takes me to a tumblr error page rather than the new wordpress page. How do I fix this? Do I need to change the permissions on the url or did I miss a step in moving everything over? Hope someone can help me out with this =)

What exactly does that mean? You had wordpress installed in a sub-directory, or on a tumblr sub-domain, or on different host?

Bottom line is that your domain name needs to now point directly to your wordpress location, wherever that might be. If it still points to the tumblr site, it’s going to 404.

Yes, I had wordpress in a sub-domain on a different host.
Can you tell me how to direct the domain from tumblr to wordpress? My host is freehostia if that helps.

I figured it out with some digging in my host’s FAQ section. If anyone comes across this with the same issue; look for your DNS records and you’re going to want to change the A record (the IP address). On freehostia they have an option to just reset the A record.
