I plan on changing URL on my site, if i change that in the general settings, will it automatically update the images? or will i have to manually update everything?

Do not change the urls in setting -> General! See Changing_The_Site_URL for details of how to do this correctly.

Ok, i will follow those steps, i am assuming it will also update the images as well.

What is the best way to take down the existing site? It is also a wordpress site. The new site is hosted with GoDaddy, so i am trying to make it as seemless as possible.

Just delete all of the WordPress files and remove the database.
