Sorry to hear of the problem you are having.
I have tested it on my test site using latest version of Chat plugin and found it’s working fine without any issue as shown in the following screenshot.

Could you please share me the page URL from your site where you are using it so that i can troubleshoot the issue?
This can be due to any JavaScript error that your site is generating.
Can you check whether this is any JavaScript errors in the browser console?
In Chrome go to “View -> Developer -> JavaScript Console” and in Firefox you can go to “Tools -> Web Developer -> Console”

Thanks for your reply. Since the chat’s not publicly accessible, we don’t have a way to test that on your site.
I’ve been testing it in lab site as well without any issues. If the emoticons aren’t working then it has to be a JavaScript issue, so an error would show in the console. I saw a bunch of 404’s in the console on your site and I suspect there might be something similar with this one.
Could you maybe provide a screenshot of the console when attempting to use the emoticons?
Also, when you say the emoticons don’t work, are you saying they don’t do anything when clicked?
